Grand Prize winner, 2008 Banff Mountain Photography Competition, Marten Blumen is known for his capacity and devotion to produce quality images in tough conditions. Combining a world class digital skill-set, an artists eye for light and an inquisitive mind, he regularly produces unique outcomes.


Prestigious publications and companies including National Geographic, Outside- China edition, New Zealand Geographic, Action Asia, Crux, Wilderness, Climber, Capture, New Zealand Alpine Journal, RockClimbing.com, Climbing.com, UrbanClimber.com, and Mountain Equipment Co-Op have used his photographs.

He was the judge of the 2009 Wellington New Zealand Alpine Club photographic competition and ran a packed photographic workshop at the 2009 NZ Mountain Film Festival in Wanaka, NZ.

He has also designed outdoor photography treks and workshops with World Expeditions and the New Zealand Alpine Club, additionally, he has produced digital effects work for television commercials and feature films including Microsoft, Omnitel, Febreeze, Clarinex, Sony, Siemens, Farscape, Charlottes Web, Rogue, Jack and the Beanstalk - the Real Story, Anacondas, Hercules and Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow at world class post production facilities including Fin, FuelVFX, Jim Hensons Digital-Creature Shop, PhotonVFX, Z-Space, Winning Post, Omnicon and Garner McLennan Design.

With over a decade of professional experience and mountain climbing he is at ease in the urban environment or the rugged outdoors. His adventures have taken him to countries including India, Nepal, China, Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Canada, USA, UK, France, Germany, Slovenia, Croatia, Italy, Australia and New Zealand.

Blumen regularly seeks new images away from his studio in the South Island of New Zealand where he also teaches in-house post-processing workshops. His stock photography is licensed through both Hedgehog House and his own website and his photos are available to purchase as high quality fine art prints.
